It gives me a greater joy when people get inspired through my blog. In fact, blogging helped me differentiate between real and abstract and gave my life a deeper meaning.
The purpose of this post is to inspire someone out there to do something they are passionate about.
WHY I STARTED BLOGGING
I’ve always had a flair for writing, which was one of the reasons I launched www.chiomaokoyeakpawusi.com.
I started blogging a few months ago when I discovered that having a career as a system engineer is treading water for me – writing gives me a purpose.
Growing up, I’ve always wanted to be a writer and blogging for me is a vehicle to share my musings to a wider world.
ABOUT MY BLOG
www.chiomaokoyeakpawusi.com is a lifestyle blog that has visitors from all over the world.
We have perfectly outlined categories and we blog about varied topics ranging from beauty, religion, celebrities, food, history, sports, music, insightful articles, etc.
Also, we have the ‘Person of the Week’ column where we interview people making impact in the world. Like Joe Freel, a jazz musician and the Associate Director, A&R Administration at Sony Music Entertainment, Matthias Coenen, a guitarist, Austin Uwah, a veteran Pilot, Dave Jagermeister, a US Army veteran etc.
Again, we have in-house experts who give free advice weekly on hair and beauty (Omaguru for beauty and Healthymane for hair).
We also write free reviews on products of interest, so our readers can familiarize themselves with the brand of their choice.
THE FASCINATION / ROLE MODELS
Since my childhood days, I’ve always been fascinated with writing – how words are constructed to make meaning.
Dele Sobowale, a veteran columnist at Vanguard Newspaper inadvertently inspired me to write.
When I was younger, I always used the money for my lunch to buy a copy of Vanguard Newspaper to read his column ‘FRANKLY SPEAKING’.
Dele has a way of making banal remarks sound like a brilliant repertoire. His writing skills left me in awe of him.
Through him I learnt to totally refuse to be cowed nor afraid to express myself and I got inspired, really inspired reading his column.
HOW I GAINED POPULARITY AND MY SECRETS TO RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL BLOG
Blogging is not easy. In fact when I started this blog, I was overwhelmed and had lots of sleepless nights before I could find my balance.
Over the months, I’ve discovered that the secrets to running a successful blog include:
• Quality contents
The last part is actually what sustains me in this business because I rely on the Holy Spirit for inspiration. I also learnt to autograph my work with excellence which speaks volumes about my blog.
I was lucky to learn about blogging from professionals before I started and my take out from the training was that to be successful at blogging, you have to update your blog always so your readers will not disperse due to lack of content.
I gained popularity through the WordPress platform, social media, adverts, and through word of mouth. My readers are a wonderful set of people, they always write me to praise or criticize my posts constructively and that has helped me to grow as a blogger.
I have few writers who handle some posts, because running a multi-niche blog like mine entails outsourcing tasks.
My writers share our posts on their social media handles, which is also a way of creating an online presence.
My goal is to have deep-rooted global recognition and also to empower young women to become a better version of themselves. Already, I’ve started this by employing only young people as contributors on my blog.
