Bible Text: Gen14:14-22
Abraham won three victories because a man of faith is called to be a blessing.
1. A VICTORY OVER LOT Gen 14: 14
It would have been easy for Abraham to allow Lot suffer the sad consequences of his own foolish decision. But because a man of faith is called to be a blessing, so Abraham went to his rescue.
Lot was not a very dedicated believer, but he was still a brother and needed help. When a brother or sister creates problems for you, remember Abraham and the words of Rom 12:21:
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good “
Lot went right back into Sodom, but Abraham did what he did for the Lord; and that’s what really counts.
Sometimes we can’t easily do good especially to those who hurt us, but the memory of how God lavished His love on us while we were yet sinners, still pushes us to show some kindness.
2. A VICTORY OVER THE KINGS GEN 14:15
Abraham the pilgrim would never have gotten involved in the war if not to rescue Lot. Though he didn’t have a large army but he battled by faith; and that is what gave him the victory because faith is the victory that overcomes the world (1John 5:4-5).
3. A VICTORY OVER HIMSELF GEN 22:24
We should be watchful after the victory just like before the battle. Abraham was tempted to use God’s glory for personal gain, but he refused the offer.
The king of Sodom came with a bargain, but the king of Salem (a picture of our Lord Jesus Christ; Heb 7:1-3) came with a blessing.
Even a shoelace from Sodom would have defiled Abraham’s godly walk.
After every battle, give God the glory; and beware of the devil’s bargains. If you are not careful, you may win the war and lose the victory.
