5 SURE WAYS TO TREAT DANDRUFF

Finding those tiny little white specks all over your clothes have never been exciting for anyone. It makes you question your hygiene level and wonder what you have been doing wrong.

Dandruff is a scalp problem and a common skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis. What a name? They are those flaky and scaly patches that can be found on the scalp and most times, it comes with a ‘crazy itch’.  Dandruff is a very common problem and I was once a victim albeit recovering!

Now, Let’s not confuse dandruff with dry scalp which also causes terrible itch even though they look the same. From my experience, I can tell you that dry scalp is easier to manage than dandruff.

Before you can get rid of dandruff, you need to visit a trichologist to ascertain the level of your dandruff because severe itching and flaking  might require anti-inflammatory medications.

CAUSES OF DANDRUFF
Most times, dandruff is caused by the excessive production of sebum (the natural oil produced by our bodies to keep our hair healthy) . Also it can occur due to the Presence of malassezia, a yeast-like fungus which can cause excess cell growth. Sadly once these cells die, they become dandruff.

TREATMENT OF DANDRUFF

 Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil

We know this essential oil has more than 100 uses and beating dandruff is topmost on the list. Tea tree oil is capable of fighting dandruff because of its antifungal properties. Before you use this harsh essential oil, please make sure you dilute it with water or with oil of your choice. Also, you can add few drops to your shampoo and gently massage your scalp with it on your washday. You can find other uses of tea tree oil here.

Apple cider vinegar

ACV- (SOURCE, GOOGLE)

Go for this is you suffer from acute dandruff. I can testify it works because I have used everything I compiled on this list . ACV changes the ph level of your scalp, making it hard for yeast to grow. Not only that, it makes the hair very soft and more manageable.
Before using ACV, always make sure you dilute it with water. You can add it to your Spritz bottle and spray it on your scalp. Afterwards, cover your hair with a plastic bag for 30 minutes and wash out.
Also, you can use it as a rinse out. For quicker result, do this every forthnight.

 GARLIC

Garlic
Cloves of garlic

This is cheap and also an effective way to get rid of dandruff but it can be messy and the smell so unpleasant. Garlic has antimicrobial properties which can be used to treat dandruff.
Just crush some cloves of garlic and mix with honey and apply on your scalp. Wash it off with clean water. Repeat every forthnight.

LEMON JUICE

Lemon contains antiseptic properties which can be a great remedy for dandruff. Just like apple cider vinegar, lemon is acidic therefore helps to get rid of dandruff. The only downside is that lemon can also alter the natural hair colour and it only works temporarily.

  1. You are right about lemon. It is like a temporary fix to a permanent problem. Tea tree oil worked for me when I had dandruff. I still regard that dandruff era a terrible phase in my life. You see, I tried everything including onions which once got into my eyes during the course of the treatment. Lol. My second name became miss trial and error but then, I started adding tea tree oil on my spray bottle which consists of water and a leave in conditioner. After some weeks, the itch reduced and subsequently stopped. #endofrant
