There are many reasons why dark spots or patches may appear on our faces. Most of them are wide out of our control, while the others maybe caused by us. An example of such skin condition is Melasma, which can be caused as a result of hormonal changes like pregnancy. In this post, we will focus more on hyperpigmentation and how to get rid of them.
According to www.medicinenet.com, Some of the causes of hyperpigmentation include:
- Excess sun exposure
- Certain chemotherapy drugs
- Certain medical conditions such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
- Chemical or physical injury
- Inflammatory diseases
- Tobacco smoking
Whatever the reasons for your dark spots are, they can be solved. I personally tested some of these methods myself, because I suffer from hyperpigmentation, as a result of sun exposure.
5 WAYS TO GET RID OF DARK SPOTS ON YOUR FACE
This is one of the most effective method, that I used to reduce my hyperpigmentation. According to www.healthline.com:
“Microdermabrasion is minimally invasive procedure used to renew overall skin tone and texture. It can improve the appearance of sun damages, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma and other skin-related concerns and conditions. The procedure uses a special applicator with an abrasive surface to gently sand away the thick outer layer of the skin to rejuvenate it”
This procedure helps to reveal the new skin, which is smooth. However, I’d strongly recommend that you visit an esthetician if you want to get this procedure done. Never perform this procedure on yourself,, because you might cause an irreversible damage to your skin if you do so. Also, getting this treatment once a month is okay – anything less than that, will damage your skin overtime.
This is also one of my favourites. Exfoliating your skin twice weekly will help get rid of the dead skin cells which accumulated over time on the surface of your skin. It also helps to reduce your dark spots. There are many types of exfoliation – physical and chemical exfoliation. I elaborated more on this topic in my book – THE SKINCARE ROUTINE MANUAL. I also shared my preferred methods of exfoliation and my preferred products which work wonders.
Wearing a sunscreen has many benefits which we discussed already in this post – THE BEST SUNSCREENS FOR ALL SKIN TYPES. If you want to prevent dark spots / hyperpigmentation, then need to wear your SPF 30 and above daily, because the UVA and B Rays are one of the major causes of hyperpigmentation.
4. Vitamin C
This skincare active, is a must-have, except if you are allergic to it. It is an antioxidant that helps fight free radicals like UV Rays which damages the skin and causes hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C also helps to lighten the areas affected by hyperpigmentation to make the skin tone more even.
5. Introduce fruits and vegetables to your diet
I dedicated a chapter in my book to talk about how our diets help our skin to be flawless and healthy. Check it out below, if you haven’t done so yet and you will be glad you did. Foods rich in vitamin C and Flavonoids like orange, brocoli and avocado can help reduce dark spots like hyperpigmentation and will give you that wonderful glow, you badly crave.
